Our Spoiler Free Review of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Updated: May 22, 2022

We had the opportunity to experience Walt Disney World's newest attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind during a media preview event this week and if we had to choose one word to describe it....WOW!

There are so many amazing things about this attraction that makes it a must do, but we are only going to share the parts that don't spoil the attraction. When we experience a new attraction we don't watch ride through videos and do our best to know as little as possible about what we are about to experience. It's the way these attractions are intended to be experienced and trust us, it makes the experience 100x better.

This new roller coaster at EPCOT is the first Marvel attraction to debut at the Walt Disney World Resort. The attraction is housed at the Wonders of Xandar pavilion where the people of Xandar have brought their space travel technology to Terra (what they call Earth) so that we can visit their home planet. Of course things don't go as planned and before you know the Guardians of the Galaxy need your help. That's all we want to tell you about the story as to not spoil it.

Besides being the first Marvel attraction at Walt Disney World, it's also the world's first "Omnicoaster" which is a combination of a roller coaster and an omnimover attraction like the Haunted Mansion where the ride vehicle turns while moving to keep the riders pointed directly at the action. So yes, the ride vehicles spin. The good news is that it's not violent, jarring, or intense. The

"spinning" motion is more of a smooth turn to keep you centered on the action and it's incredibly smooth and it's not overdone. In fact, if you are really tuned in to what's going on you sometimes don't even notice that your vehicle has moved which just reinforces how good the story flows with the ride.

Our favorite thing about this attraction is that it's family friendly. With a height restriction of 42" it allows more families to experience the attraction together. They could have made this coaster super intense, tried to break speed or drop records, but instead they focused on making a really good attraction with a really good story. It's the perfect example of why Disney is different than any other theme park. Walt Disney famously said that he built Disneyland so that families had a place where they could play together and 66 years later that mentality remains.

Our next favorite thing about the attraction is the soundtrack. If

you have seen either of the Guardians of the Galaxy films you know that the music is amazing. During your experience on this ride you'll hear one of these six songs:

  • “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire

  • “Disco Inferno” by the Trammps

  • “Conga” by Miami Sound Machine

  • “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears

  • “I Ran” by A Flock of Seagulls

  • “One Way or Another” by Blondie

During our two rides we had "I Ran" and "Disco Inferno." I found myself dancing and singing the entire time. The random music selection and alternate endings make this attraction that can be experienced over and over again. We personally can't wait to experience the other songs as each one just seems incredibly fun.

Will I get motion sickness? You might. It is a roller coaster with

many twists and turns and there is that gradual spinning motion. Those who are prone to motion sickness and have rode the attraction during these preview events have reported that the coaster gave them motion sickness. If you are prone to motion sickness we recommend either taking medication or potentially skipping the attraction.

Is it too scary or intense for children? We don't think so. If we had compare it to other Disney attractions we would say it's Space Mountain meets Slinky Dog Dash. While the attraction is

in the dark, it's incredibly smooth and there are no jarring tours like Space Mountain. While there is a launch it's more like Slinky Dog than Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. There are no loops or intense drops. If your children like Slinky Dog Dash, we think they will love Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Overall, we give this attraction a 10 out of 10. It's a next level attraction that should be a must do for every Walt Disney World vacation. We still rank Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance as the best overall attraction at Walt Disney World, but this is a very close second! It's a can't miss for Marvel fans, coaster fans, or anyone who just wants to experience an incredibly fun ride!
